Biomedical Imaging and Modeling Group
- Application of the ionizing radiation in medicine, in particular optimization of radiological exposure assessment of staff and patients undergoing medical therapy and diagnosis. For this purpose the dosimetry methods based on use of termoluminescent detectors (TLD) and dedicated phantoms (static and dynamic heart phantom, dosimetry phantom) are employed.
- Mathematical modeling of selected physiological processes, especially focused on application of compartment modeling for extracorporeal liver support therapy.
- Theoretical analysis concerning Halbach-type permanent magnets configurations application for low-field magnetic resonance imaging systems.
- The application of the advanced spectroscopic methods in investigation of elemental (XRF microscopy, TXRF spectroscopy) and biochemical (FTIR microscpectroscopy, Raman scpetroscopy) changes occurring in the organs and tissues as a result of the physiological and pathological processes of different ethology. The conducted studies concern research on processes underlying epilepsy in different animal models of the disease, assessment of the neuroprotective/antiepileptic mechanisms of ketogenic diet action, determination of the bimolecular markers of the glioblastoma multiform invasiveness in brain tissue and finally the potential toxicity of the iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (commercial available and dedicated) both under in vivo and in vitro conditions.
- Experimental and theoretical studies on melanoma cancer photodynamic therapy as well as development of models of light, oxygen and photosensitizers transport at cellular and tissue level.
- Studies on high entropy alloys (HEA).
