Piotr Bożek is a professor of physics at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow.

Piotr Bożek' s research is in theoretical nuclear physics, particularly in the area of heavy ion collisions. The interpretation of experimental studies conducted with colliding heavy ion beams at RHIC in BNL and the LHC at CERN requires a quantitative modeling of the collision dynamics. The hot and dense matter created in the interaction region behaves like an almost perfect fluid. Hydrodynamics is applied to describe the evolution of the density and flow of matter. These studies aim at understanding the mechanism of the apparent thermalization and extracting the properties of the quark-gluon plasma.

Previously, Piotr Bożek has studied the phenomenon of nuclear mulifragmentation in intermediate energy nuclear collisions and applied quantum many-body methods to calculate the properties of strongly interacting nuclear systems.
